Degree: Doctoral degree in one of the following (or closely related area): Biotechnology, Microbial Molecular Biology, Plant–Microbe Interactions, Food Microbiology / Food Safety
Contract: 2-year fixed contract term (with possibility of 2 times 2-year extension)

Job Position
 
The Center for Food Biotechnology and Microbiology at Ghent University Global Campus, South Korea, has a vacancy for a Full-time Research Professor position, starting from May 1, 2026. It concerns a 2-year fixed contract position with a possible extension (up to 6 years total) based on positive evaluation and considering the campus operational circumstances.
The candidate will work under the supervision of Prof. dr. Sam Van Haute at the Center for Food Biotechnology and Microbiology, Ghent University Global Campus, in Songdo, Incheon.
 
 
 
Job Qualification (Profile of the Candidate)
  • You hold a PhD degree in Biotechnology, Microbial Molecular Biology, Plant-Microbe Interactions, Food Microbiology/ Food Safety.
  • Required knowledge: You have deep knowledge in antimicrobial treatments of fresh produce and setting up disinfection trials.
  • Has strong didactic, communicative and management skills and a large interest and experience in providing and supporting academic education (in Food Science).
  • The ability to work effectively within the research center and to help guide undergraduate and graduate students is an asset.
  • Experience in applying for external research funding is an asset.
                                                                                                                                                                                                 
Job Description
The position is part research (70%) and part teaching practical exercises in undergraduate courses (Food Science, Food Microbiology, or Food Technology) (30%). The selected candidate will conduct research projects in the domain of microbial safety, leading to publications in high-ranking, peer-reviewed scientific journals.
The research professor will investigate how plant diseases influence the microbial safety of fresh produce.
The research focuses on plant–pathogen interactions and associated physiological changes affecting the survival, attachment, and internalization of foodborne pathogens such as Listeria monocytogenes and E. coli O157. The overall aim is to develop targeted strategies to reduce foodborne pathogen contamination in diseased crops.
The Research Professor is expected to seek national/international research funding to support this research.
