겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스(이하 겐트대)가 27일, 인천글로벌캠퍼스(IGC) 대강당에서 2026학년도 봄학기 신입생 입학식을 개최했다.
 
행사는 미쉘 쾰레만스(Michiel Ceulemans) 주한 벨기에 부대사, 변주영 인천글로벌캠퍼스 운영재단 대표이사 등 주요 관계자를 비롯해 학생·학부모·교직원 500여 명이 참석한 가운데 신입생들의 새로운 출발을 축하했다.
 
행사는 ▲교수진 행렬, ▲환영사, ▲축사, ▲신입생 헌장 낭독 및 대표 연설, ▲신입생 배지 수여, 그리고 ▲기념 촬영 및 공연 순으로 진행됐다. 신입생들은 헌장 낭독 및 대표 연설을 통해 “공동체와 함께 성장하고, 사회에 기여하는 인재로 거듭나겠다”고 선언했으며 겐트대의 일원이 되었음을 알리는 배지를 받았다.
 
김형우 신입생은 “오랫동안 훌륭한 과학자가 되고 싶다는 꿈을 키워왔으며, 발명대회에 나가 대통령상을 받은 경험도 있다”며 “이제 생명·바이오 분야 최고의 명성을 자랑하는 겐트대에서 공부하며 글로벌 경쟁력을 갖추고 세계적인 과학자로 거듭나기 위해 최선을 다하겠다”라고 소감을 밝혔다.
 
신입생들은 졸업까지 240학점 이수, 100% 영어 강의, 4학년 1학기 벨기에 본교 수학 등 글로벌 인재로 거듭나기 위한 학업 여정을 시작한다.
 
한태준 총장은 환영사를 통해 “신입생 여러분의 힘찬 출발을 축하하고 또 응원한다”면서 “앞으로 신입생들이 학교생활에 빠르게 적응하고 세계를 무대로 꿈을 펼칠 수 있도록 모든 학교 구성원들이 한마음, 한뜻으로 지원하겠다”고 말했다.
 
학교는 봄학기 입학식에 앞서 ‘겐린이를 부탁해’, ‘신입생 사전 오리엔테이션’ 등 다양한 프로그램을 진행했으며, 이후에도 ‘튜터링 프로그램’, ‘개별 카운슬링’ 등 신입생들의 빠른 적응을 위해 노력할 계획이다.
 
겐트대학교 글로벌캠퍼스는 생명·바이오 분야 세계 30위권의 명성을 가진 벨기에 겐트대의 유일한 확장캠퍼스다. 2014년 인천 송도에 개교한 이래 경쟁력 있는 글로벌 인재를 배출해 왔으며, 졸업생들은 임페리얼 칼리지 런던, ETH 취리히 등 세계 유수의 대학원에 진학하거나 글로벌 대기업에 취업하는 등 사회 곳곳에서 능력과 가치를 인정받고 있다.

Ghent University Global Campus held the 2026 Spring Matriculation Ceremony on the February 27, at the IGC Auditorium.
 
The ceremony celebrated the new students start with approximately 500 attendees, including key figures such as Michiel Ceulemans, Deputy Head of Mission of Belgium to the Republic of Korea, and Juyoung Byun, CEO of the Incheon Global Campus, along with students, parents, and faculty and staff.
 
The program proceeded in the following order ▲ faculty procession ▲ welcome remarks ▲ congratulatory address ▲ reading of the new student charter and representative speech ▲ presentation of new student badges ▲ commemorative photos and performances. Through the charter reading and the representative speech, the new students declared that they “will grow together with the community and become contributors to society,” and received badges signifying their membership in the university.
 
Hyeongwoo Kim, a new student said, “I have long nurtured the dream of becoming an excellent scientist, and I have experience winning the Presidential Award at an invention competition. Now, I will do my best to study at GUGC to build global competitiveness and become a world-class scientist.”
 
The new students will begin their academic journey toward becoming global talents by completing 240 credits for graduation, attending courses taught 100% in English, and studying for one semester at the university’s main campus in Belgium during their fourth year, first semester.
 
Taejun Han, Prof. Dr. Campus President said, “We celebrate and cheer the energetic start of our new students,” and added, “University will unite to support new students’ swift adaptation to campus life so they can pursue their dreams on the global stage.”
 
Prior to the ceremony, the university ran various programs such as “Welcome, Ghent Newbies” and the “New Student Pre-Orientation” and will continue efforts to help new students adapt quickly with initiatives like the tutoring program and study counseling.
 
GUGC is the only global campus of Belgium’s Ghent University, ranked among the world’s top 30 in bio sciences. Since opening in Songdo, Incheon in 2014, the campus has produced competitive global talents, its graduates have advanced to leading graduate schools such as Imperial College London and ETH Zurich, or have been employed by major global corporations, earning recognition for their abilities and value across society.
