“Ghent University Global Campus – Royal Flora Korea Sign MOU,
to Lead Korean Floriculture Industry with Smart Farm Technology”
- Full-scale Joint R&D on Technology-Intensive Smart Farms -
On the 11th, Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC, Taejun Han, Prof. Dr. Campus President) and Royal Flora Korea (CEO Insook Kim) signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for cooperation.
The signing ceremony, held at Ghent University Global Campus, was attended by Taejun Han, Prof. Dr. Campus President of Ghent University Global Campus, Wonseok Yoon Commissioner of Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority (IFEZ), Byungkeun Park CEO of Incheon Global Campus Foundation (IGC), Insook Kim CEO of Royal Flora Korea, working-level researchers, and other stakeholders. The agreement includes ▲ technology exchange, joint research planning, product development, pilot projects, intellectual property acquisition and transfer, commercialization strategy development, and industry-academia linked cooperation in the smart farm and related industries, ▲ expert lectures, field trips, and other programs required by both institutions, and ▲ human resource development such as student internships, employment linkage, and scholarship support.
With this agreement, both sides plan to collaborate on the development of export items based on smart farm technologies, high value-added products such as special cultivation crops, and the creation of new jobs through industry-academia cooperation. In addition, they aim to jointly research and commercialize future-oriented agricultural technologies, including plant-based (including seaweed and algae) and bio-convergent technologies.
Taejun Han, Prof. Dr. Campus President of Ghent University Global Campus said, “Our campus has already been actively involved in smart farm projects related to seaweed and similar fields,” and added, “We hope this collaboration with Royal Flora Korea will make a substantial contribution to the advancement of domestic smart farm technology, talent cultivation, and job creation.”
Insook Kim CEO of Royal Flora Korea stated, “We have long felt regret over the lack of proper smart farms or floriculture distribution complexes in Korea,” and added, “We will do our best in partnership with Ghent University so that Korean floriculture can gain competitiveness in the global market.”
Royal Flora Korea is a Korean partner company registered with Royal Flora Holland (RFH), a global floriculture distribution organization. The company is working to expand the export of Korean floricultural crops and foster the next generation of global talent, actively leading efforts to enter the global market beyond Korea.
Ghent University Global Campus (GUGC), located in Songdo, Incheon, is the extended campus of Belgium’s Ghent University, which is globally renowned in life sciences and biotechnology. It continues to conduct vibrant interdisciplinary research based on its advanced research infrastructure.
