Assistant Language Lecturer in Academic English

  • Degree: Master degree in one of the following: English Language Teaching, English Language, or related area. PhD is preferred.

  • Level: Significant university-level teaching experience both in overseas non-native contexts, as well as within European or Western English language contexts.

    Ghent University Global Campus, Korea (GUGC-K) has a vacancy for a position of assistant language lecturer, starting from 28th August, 2017. It concerns a full-time position for a period of one-year, renewable.

     

    Profile of the candidate

  • Will hold a Masters degree (preferably PhD) from a reputable university in the areas of English Language Teaching or related areas. Further relevant teaching qualifications will also be preferable (e.g. DELTA etc).

  • Have a strong record of teaching experience at the university level in a range of cultural contexts. Preferably, in Korea, other East Asia contexts, and in European or native-English dominant contexts, eg. teaching in UK/USA higher education.

  • Must have experience of teaching academic writing programs (for a specific purpose); teaching and tutoring presentation and communication skills, and be highly proficient in offering feedback to students using a wide range of methods and technologies.

  • Candidates should be experienced and confident in the use of online learning platforms for student communication, and will bring suggestions on how to further enhance the student learning experience.

  • Experience in curriculum and programme development at the university-level is a plus.

    Job description

  • To provide teaching and extensive student correction and feedback within the English for Academic Studies courses at Ghent University Global Campus, Korea.
  • To tutor students individually and in group-sessions on language, communication and study related issues.
  • To assist his/her supervisor in the development and expansion of the program for Higher Education language and communication skills, through curriculum development, materials development, and the development of knowledge on the First Year Experience at the campus.

 

Starting date: 28th August, 2017

The candidate will work under the supervision of prof. Michael Dunne located at the campus in Korea.
